Reno Air Race Strega Poster

With the race quickly approaching I wanted to turn my attention to doing some art work that I always thought was cool. Aircraft caricature is not what I'm use to doing....so I started with a favorite, Strega to see if I could improve upon my skill set. Starting with a P-51 blueprint and using the pen tool in Photoshop and after about a hundred different layers and learning some new techniques, what you see below is what I ended up with on my first attempt. O’Hare is situated 71 miles to the South of my hometown airport, General Mitchell International Airport (KMKE). O’Hare has a little of everything to offer the Spotter and Enthusiast, Commercial Aircraft, BizJets, and the occasional Military type traffic. You never know what will turn up on final from A350 to AN-124 and Falcon 2000 to F-16, it is a truly a Spotter’s Mecca. Back in 1942 the US Army Air Corps was in Chicago looking for a suitable location in which to build C-54’s for the war effort. Maho Beach… Been There, Done That, Got the T-shirt!

mb6 I've travelled to some truly special places to satisfy my passion for aviation photo opportunities.  I've photographed airliners at London's Heathrow and Amsterdam's Schiphol airports, from Imperial Hill near LAX, and at a score of other interesting facilities around the world.  One destination that had eluded me for some time was the famous Maho Beach approach to Princess Juliana International Airport on the Dutch side of Sint Maarten (Dutch spelling) island.  By coincidence this past March, while searching itineraries that would mitigate the effects of a long cold New England winter, my wife Shirl found a cruise from New Orleans LA to Barcelona Spain whose first port of call just happened to be "The Friendly Island" of Saint Martin (English spelling)...Read More
