What do you get when you combine sunshine, fast jets, ageless warbirds, and a large enthusiastic crowd?  That’s right…Aviation Nation!   The weekend of Nov 8-9, also known as the homecoming weekend for the USAF Thunderbirds aerial demonstration team, brought together many talented acts as well as over 130,000 aviation enthusiasts and curious spectators to the ramp at Nellis Air Force Base just north of Las Vegas, NV.  This is one show that PHXSpotters never misses, and we were there in full force to take in all the action.

The day started off with the color guard performing the national anthem immediately culminating with the fly-over of an F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II in formation and break for landing...

Frontier Airlines Flight 859 “Stu the Rabbit”

PHXSpotter member Billy Ellison who is a longtime fan of the Airbus A318 had the chance to take a ride on the last ever US airline to operate the A318. On August 5th 2013 Frontier Airlines held its last passenger revenue flight from Denver to Phoenix on “Stu The Rabbit” N803FR. Here is his report

While waiting to board flight 859 to Phoenix I had seen some more Airplane geeks waiting to board the flight. I step over to chit chat with them. Like me they were very excited to be on the last Frontier A318 flight. As the flight crew got to the gate area I asked the Captain if he would mind if I took some photos of the crew and cockpit when we landed in Phoenix. I had explained to the flight crew that this will be the last time the Airbus 318 would depart Denver.

The weekend of June 1st will see Los Angeles International Airport play host to, what is an ever increasing, group of aviation and photography enthusiasts also known as “Spotters”, for what promises to be a fun-filled weekend chocked full of photography opportunities of the world’s leading airlines that operate in and out of LAX.

Originally started a few years ago by PHXSpotters, this event has ever increasingly become popular due to the numerous spots for photography (not to mention Helicopter overflights!!!), and the large variety of aircraft and airlines that fly here.  This year’s event is being coordinated in tandem with PHXSpotters and the offshoot organization “LAXSpotters”
