Red Flag 17-3 Report

The first of two summer Red Flag exercises was held at Nellis Air Force Base in the Nevada desert from July 10th to 28th. This iteration of Flag (RF 17-3) is the one RF training event of the year to have no foreign participation. One of the biggest take-aways from this exercise was the ability to integrate four different fifth-generation platforms into a Red Flag exercise.

Red Flag is America’s premier training exercise for today’s warfighters. Originally developed to improve our nation’s air to air kill ratio during Vietnam, it has grown into much more than strictly air to air tactics.

Red Flag 17-2, which concluded March 10th, included allies such as Spain, Singapore, and the Netherlands. As with all Red Flags, integration is the name of the game at these exercises. The mission sets allow each nation participating to adapt to each other’s tactics, and to formulate the most effective way to eliminate the threats they face using all assets involved as a singular force. Many lessons and tactics are learned and shared between our coalition partners, and any challenges presented are addressed and overcome so that we maintain a constant state of readiness...

36th Annual ‘Wings Over Camarillo’ Air Show

The 36th annual ‘Wings Over Camarillo’ air show was held August 20th and 21st at the Camarillo Airport in Southern California. Once known as Oxnard Air Force Base, it is now home to the Experimental Aircraft Association(EAA), the Ventura County 99’s, the Ventura County Sheriff Department, and the Commemorative Air Force’s Southern California Wing . The airport also houses several general aviation businesses such as Orbitz Helicopters.

The show’s Grand Marshall this year was none other than Mr. Bob Eubanks, who helped open the show along with Ron Fleishman. Together they kept the crowd informed and entertained, sharing stories of Bob’s illustrious career in between aerial acts.
