If you are anything like me, I enjoy seeing special paint schemes on fighter aircraft. Arguably, nobody is doing it better and more consistently than than the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). Every year before the airshow season starts I anxiously await what supreme design will adorn the RCAF CF-118 known as ‘Hornet 01’. This years design theme is ‘Canada 150’ , a celebration of the nations 150th Anniversary of Confederation. The specially painted CF-118 Hornet features the official logo for 'Canada 150' placed throughout the design. The logo is composed of a series of diamonds, or “celebratory gems”, arranged in the shape of the iconic maple leaf...Read More

Legacy. Everyone leaves one and every person has a choice in how theirs will be defined. By a person’s actions, they determine how they are to be remembered. While everyone experiences some degree of success in this endeavor, some accomplish this in spectacular fashion. One of those people, the late Ed Maloney created a lasting tradition of excellence within the warbird community that is simply unrivaled. In the mid 1950’s Ed began acquiring some of the aircraft being rapidly cast off by an equally rapidly advancing United States Military. Unable to simply let these aircraft be discarded and scrapped, Ed opened the first museum with 10 aircraft in 1957...Read More

Aeroshell

What's a girl to do? It's another grey day in Indiana. The sun is not even trying to peek though and I want to go flying! I'm grounded. And I don't have a pilot’s license or a pilot (for that matter.) I look at the calendar and see that we are just under 30 days until EAA AirVenture!!! It's that time again. Time to see friends I only get to see once a year. Some come to Oshkosh for the 10,000+ airplanes. I go to Oshkosh for the 500,000+ people and to see my friends from Georgia, South Carolina, Texas, Florida, West Virginia, even Canada and New Zealand. I can't wait to see their smiling faces and hear about their journey to OSH17. In just under thirty days, my boys and I will awake to the sounds of Team Aeroshell or the GEICO SkyTypers. No alarm is ever needed...Read More

Delta not in the book

Credit all photos to Bill Sarama, except where noted... It's a clear and warm Sunday morning in April in Upstate New York. What a great day to see both the French Air Force Demo Team and the NY State Police Aviation Unit, all in the same day!! On Sunday, April 23rd, the French Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron, the "Patrouille de France", (PdF), gave a special VIP performance at the Stewart International Airport in Newburgh, New York, in honor of the 100th Anniversary of the United States entry into World War I. The "Patrouille de France" is the French Air Force equivalent of the US Air Force "Thunderbirds" Air Demonstration Squadron...Read More
