October 25, 2016 marked the passing of R.A. “Bob” Hoover at age 94. He was one of the most accomplished and skilled aviators of our time. The really good pilots are referred to as a “Pilot’s Pilot.” This characterization is the definition of who Bob Hoover truly was. A fighter pilot, test pilot, flight instructor and air show pilot extraordinaire, Hoover did it all to perfection. The Australian International Airshow and Aerospace & Defence Exposition are two concurrent events; an exhibition and trade show followed by a public airshow. Starting in 1992, this airshow is held biennually in the odd-numbered years, negotiated to fit in with the calendar of fabulous events in the great state of Victoria.

Major exercises such as Pitch Black are essential in ensuring that the Air Force remains ready to respond to threats whenever the RAAF is required by the Australian Government.
