AirVenture, EAA, Oshkosh, The World’s Busiest for 6 Days, whatever you call it, it is one of the Premier Aviation Events of the Year. This Year’s AirVenture did not disappoint in the least. From the Martin Mars, Tora, Tora, Tora, The Royal Canadian Air Force Snowbirds, to the Cathay Pacific Cargo 747-8F as usual there was something for everyone. We all have a specific reason, commemoration, event, or aircraft that draws our attention or reason for attending. This year we had several Special Events including Boeing’s 100th Birthday, the 100th Anniversary of the U.S. Coast Guard, the 75th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor, The 25th Anniversary of Desert Storm and many more...Read More

Doce Fire: Days 1 + 2

3C5T0028   I woke up around noon on Tuesday and there were photos of some smoke on my Facebook feed. A small brush fire around Granite or Iron Springs, I thought; the location was right, the size wasn't. Wednesday night the fire was at over 7000 acres and 0% containment. Prescott sees only a handful of scheduled flights, and after Horizon pulled out, left Great Lakes and their Beech 1900Ds as the only scheduled passenger planes, and Ameriflight's daily run with a Metro or a 1900C as the only cargo run...Read More

Last Friday and Saturday the Cactus Fly-In was held in Casa Grande (CGZ). One of two fly-ins in the area that that, the other being the monthlt Coolidge Fly-In, it was packed with fun and lots of airplanes. I was able to squeeze those two events and a visit to Sky Harbor all the same day (as well as the drive to and from Prescott), mainly to see how much I could handle and also for the variety. Now, those that know me well probably have heard that I have been chasing a particular plane for almost a year now, and that was the main reason I HAD to drive down to the fly in...Read More

Thunder Over The Coconino 2011

Almost 30 hours after coming back from Valle, several gigabytes and a few beers later. I have the photos ready.

The 2nd airshow in Valle in just over two months, I heard of this one from some guy in a Facebook group and did some research and it turned out it looked like I was going to make it. The reality is that as the show got closer, it started looking not good. First, Flagship Detroit cancelled, unfortunate news, but then I got word that the PB4Y Privateer was going this time (it had engine trouble in June, just as it was getting ready to head up to Valle), then, miserable weather throughout Northern Arizona threatened the show...
