By: Category: EventsHelicoptersPrescott

The first week of October the Prescott campus of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University celebrated Octoberwest, the homecoming celebrations, usually that involves some alumni coming back, having dinner, a career expo, but I never saw something as nice as this year's since 2008. In addition to the regular events we had 5 helicopters land on the soccer field and stay for the day, and a fly-in on Saturday. Also, N501SC, a Stemme S-10 converted to a gas/electric hybrid by  a team of students from the Daytona campus was also towed all the way here and reassembled in the parking lot for us to see...Read More

For three days in March the sky was filled with Military and Civilian aircraft. Also on the list of performers were the United States Army Golden Knights and the Red Bull Skydiving Team.  There were spectators from across Arizona and many from across the country that were here to see the show. The event kicked off on Friday for base personnel and their family members. This allowed the base staff to have the day off and take the family to enjoy the show with out all of the visitors in attendance.   This also allowed for their children to be able to climb on the static displays without having to wait in line. On Friday I was able to get a nice photo opportunity with Tim Weber and his Extra 300s Aerobatic Aircraft (N94BJ)...Read More

Phxspotters Day

By: Category: HelicoptersPHX

About a week ago we recieved a email from a crew member of British Airways who wanted to do some spotting of KPHX and surrounding areas. They arrived late last night and we picked them up early this morning and our journey begins. First stop Sky Harbor International Airport (KPHX). This spotter was Helicopter Enthusiast and wanted primarily rotor shots.  So I called Joe Kates and he made it happen. We were able to get out to the Maricopa County Sheriffs hanger out at Deer Valley (KDVT) and got some outstanding photos. After that we headed to Glendale Municipal Airport (GEU) and were able to get access to Airwest Helicopters, LLC. David who is the Director of Maintenance was kind of enough to gave us a nice tour of there facility...Read More

Jason Bong had a opportunity to get up and close with the 305th Rescue SQ that is based out of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona (1993-Present) They were just coming back from Roosevelt Lake after doing some training exercises and decided to stop by KIWA to get a bite to eat at the Red Brick Pizza. While talking with the crew they asked if I would be interested in taking some pictures of there HH-60G and of course I had to say yes. I want to tell the crew thank you very much for the chance to get up and close. And because of you I now have my first military patch. Here is a little information about the 305th rescue SQ. The 305th Rescue Squadron is trained and equipped to conduct Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) missions worldwide utilizing the HH-60G "Pavehawk" helicopter...Read More
