During the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, I was beginning to travel across North America in search of larger and more diverse air shows than those in my backyard of New England. This was the time before widespread use of the Internet and electronic media, and it involved searching in the land of land mail and magazines for any tidbit of information about an interesting theme or an exotic visitor from another shore. Plus, I had a network of friends who, via long distance telephone, would pass along news of interest to me, and I would return the favor when I could.

I travelled to Moody AFB on 18 August 2016, for a visit with the 74th Fighter Squadron “Flying Tigers” of the 23rd Wing. Before I describe the incredible day, I need to thank the folks that made it happen. For their hard work, support, hospitality, enduring the high heat and humidity, and ”rolling out the red carpet” for me, I want to extend my most sincere appreciation and thanks to:

AirVenture, EAA, Oshkosh, The World’s Busiest for 6 Days, whatever you call it, it is one of the Premier Aviation Events of the Year. This Year’s AirVenture did not disappoint in the least. From the Martin Mars, Tora, Tora, Tora, The Royal Canadian Air Force Snowbirds, to the Cathay Pacific Cargo 747-8F as usual there was something for everyone. We all have a specific reason, commemoration, event, or aircraft that draws our attention or reason for attending. This year we had several Special Events including Boeing’s 100th Birthday, the 100th Anniversary of the U.S. Coast Guard, the 75th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor, The 25th Anniversary of Desert Storm and many more...
