Coolidge: A Season In Review
As many of you know, last weekend the last Coolidge fly-in of the season was held. No more fly-ins until October. I was fortunate enough to attend 3 of them, October, March and April. October: Definitely not the best, not many airplanes showed up. March: Better than I expected, because the Cactus was held the same day, not too far away, we got some cool planes in Coolidge too. This included a formation flight between Racer 74 and

On April 10th 2012, PHXSpotters members got a chance to visit the Barry M. Goldwater (BMGR). Back in February we had received our conformation on our tour date. We would like to thank www.LensProtoGo.comfor there outstanding customer service. We were all holding our breath and had our

Last Saturday, NAF El Centro hosted their 2012 airshow. This was my first ever Naval airshow, and it didn't disappoint. The show opened with the Navy Leapfrogs parachuting team, launching out of one of their C-2 Greyhounds, followed by the National Anthem and some civilian performers, including Tim Weber. A different civilian performer was a jet-powered International Transtar 4300, which fired up the afterburners on the runway while one

PHX Spotter Member Saurabh Patel had a chance to visit LAX and wanted to share his story. This winter I got a chance to visit the city of Angels for a week for spotting while my family was out on vacation. LAX is one of the busiest airports on the west side with an abundance of international heavy traffic. LAX has a few world famous spotting locations where people from all over the world come to enjoy spotting. The few spots are

PHX Spotters day 2011 was a complete success. A couple weeks ago, Josh Akbar who is our Program Coordinator emailed me his thoughts about having our first Phx Spotters Day event sometime during Memorial Weekend. So we came up with a couple of ideas with our members and decided to have it on Sunday, May 29th 2011. Our first visit was to Sky Harbor International Airport (KPHX). We all decided to meet at the NW corner of T4. In

Almost 30 hours after coming back from Valle, several gigabytes and a few beers later. I have the photos ready. The 2nd airshow in Valle in just over two months, I heard of this one from some guy in a Facebook group and did some research and it turned out it looked like I was going to make it. The reality is that as the show got closer, it started looking not good. First, Flagship Detroit cancelled, unfortunate news, but then I got word that

Today was the High Country Warbirds Fly-in, held at the Planes of Fame museum in Valle (40G). When I first learned of the event, I wasn't sure if I would make it, given that this is final exams weekend; to my good luck, my final was at 8 AM, which would give me plenty of time to make the drive up to Valle to see this. So after the final, I jumped in my truck with my roommate and we headed North. Unfortunately the main plane that made me drive

A few weeks ago, when I got a message from Jason telling me about the Coolidge fly-in this Saturday, I wasn't sure if I wanted to go, part of me said yes, part of me said it's a bit of a long drive (Google said 3 hrs 20) for a morning event. Eventually I decided I was going no matter what and made sure I had Saturday free. I left for Coolidge around 5 AM (30 minutes late!) and thanks to the lack of traffic, made it to Coolidge around 7:45

The Phoenix-Mesa Gateway airport was built in 1941 and opened as Williams Air Base. It was used to train military pilots during World War II, and converted to training of jet pilots until the decision to close the base was made in 1991. Prior to closing in 1993, growing traffic at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport lead to the consideration of keeping the airport in operation for civilian use. The airport was opened in 1994 as Williams Gateway

Last Tuesday, April 12, me and some friends traveled down to Deer Valley to watch Fifi, the only airworthy B-29 in the world. We woke up at 5 to get ready for the trip down from Prescott, breakfast and other preparations, and got to DVT around 8:30. Much to our disappointment, all the planes were late; we were informed that the B-17 and B-25 of the Arizona Wing of the Commemorative Air Force were going to arrive between 10 and 10:30, and that

A couple of weeks back some members of PHXSpotters met out at Sky Harbor International Airport at Terminal 4 on the top deck. When we arrived we unpacked our tripods and started hitting that shutter button. I have always been afraid of taking night time photos, since I had never experienced doing night time aviation photography. I was not sure how my photos were going to turn out. I was thankful that we have some very talented photographers

The Centennial of Naval Aviation (CONA) Parade of Flight, held on February 12th 2011, will be what I judge all other aviation events against for a very long time. It was the Kickoff event of the year-long celebration of 100 years of naval aviation. The Parade of Flight featured more than 170 aircraft in the air and close to 75 more on the ground at NAS North Island. It was largest fly-over of San Diego since the end of World War II,
