Embraer’s E-190-E2 in Flight Testing Operations

Embraer, the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer, has begun testing their next generation, updated twinjet transports, known as the E2 series. Three versions of their present line, the E-175, E-190 and E-195 were chosen for upgrades, which include a new wing design, new Pratt and Whitney PurePower PW1700G/PW1900G Geared Turbofan Engines, and software improvements. The E-190-E2 was the first version built, and first flew on May 23, 2016. The larger E-195-E2 just made its first flight on March 29, 2017. The smaller E-175-E2 has yet to make its first flight. Altogether, there’ll be four E-190-E2s, two E-195-E2s, and three E-175-E2s produced for the testing programs, before deliveries to commercial operators begin on each version.

Patrouille de France 2017 North American Tour Begins!

France’s Armee De L’Air – sometimes known in the United States as the French Air Force – has send some of their most visible ambassadors on a seven week tour across the Atlantic Ocean, to North America. The Patrouille de France, the Air Force’s jet aerobatic team, have embarked with their eight primary Dassault/Dornier Alpha Jets, along with two other spare jets, and an Airbus A-400M Atlas support aircraft. A French Navy (Maritime) Falcon 50 tri-jet (a maritime patrol aircraft) led the procession across the chilly ocean, through some amazingly cold weather. Their tour’s logistics are eye opening and their itinerary full of symbolic gestures and historic events; here’s an overview of the early springtime tour.

The AN-124 is almost the largest aircraft in the world, second only to the AN-225 Mirya which translated into English means “Dream”. The AN-124 was designed and built to handle oversize and overweight cargo that no other aircraft can handle. The AN-124’s rugged design allows it operate from even the most poorly equipped airfields around the world. I recently had the opportunity to get an up-close look at just how much of a behemoth this aircraft truly is.
