Night Spotting at KPHX Thumbnail

Night Spotting at KPHX

After dropping a friend off at Sky Harbor, I decided to take a minute to snap some photos from Terminal 4. Shooting at night is completely different from daytime. With daylight, it’s a lot easier to capture the image you want, with night, a whole new set of challenges arise. With some photos taking up to 30 seconds to capture, everything has to go right in order to make that perfect shot. A steady tripod is a must and a wireless shutter

PHX Spotters visit KLAX.

Last week Jason Bong and Kyle Boyd decided to take a flight to KLAX for a day of spotting.  We decided to catch a flight out of KPHX to spend the day at KLAX.  We caught the first flight out and were in Los Angeles at 0900. We decided to hang out at the In & Out Burger on Sepulveda Boulevard. We were able to walk to our location that we planned out to catch the Quantas 380. This was my first encounter with the AB380. During our visit

Coolidge Fly-In October 11 Thumbnail

Coolidge Fly-In October 11

Well, this last Saturday was the first fly-in of the season. Even with the threat of bad weather, heat haze and low attendance I made the 3 hour drive just to see how it was. Yes, there was less traffic than usual, but still quite a few planes that weren't there before, including a nice looking Cessna 310R that I had seen two weeks before in Sedona. Also, fellow spotter Kyle Boyd flew a C172 from Deer Valley. And it seems like N138FF, the

PHX Spotters Day 2011 Thumbnail

PHX Spotters Day 2011

PHX Spotters day 2011 was a complete success. A couple weeks ago, Josh Akbar who is our Program Coordinator emailed me his thoughts about  having our first Phx Spotters Day event sometime during Memorial Weekend. So we came up with a couple of  ideas with our members and  decided to have it on Sunday, May 29th 2011.  Our first visit was to Sky Harbor International Airport (KPHX). We all decided to meet at the NW corner of T4. In

Thunder Over The Coconino 2011

Almost 30 hours after coming back from Valle, several gigabytes and a few beers later. I have the photos ready. The 2nd airshow in Valle in just over two months, I heard of this one from some guy in a Facebook group and did some research and it turned out it looked like I was going to make it. The reality is that as the show got closer, it started looking not good. First, Flagship Detroit cancelled, unfortunate news, but then I got word that

US Airways Training class of 2011 Thumbnail

US Airways Training class of 2011

Over 1000 applicants all come together at US Airways Training Center located just West of Sky Harbor Airport. Information passed on to me was that US Airways has not hired any new employees for about 4 years. And after the face to face interview  26 out of 1000 applicants were selected for the next hiring process. Today was the last day of training and we all will report to work on Monday for our first day as official Ramp Agents. I would

High Country Warbirds Fly In 2011

Today was the High Country Warbirds Fly-in, held at the Planes of Fame museum in Valle (40G). When I first learned of the event, I wasn't sure if I would make it, given that this is final exams weekend; to my good luck, my final was at 8 AM, which would give me plenty of time to make the drive up to Valle to see this. So after the final, I jumped in my truck with my roommate and we headed North. Unfortunately the main plane that made me drive
