At about the time PHXspotters heard the newest in Airbus’s illustrious stable was visiting Australia, we needed little prodding to fly interstate for a mixed media demonstration and spotting trip. As the A350-1000XWB is yet to visit the American continent, I’d like to share the experience.

Business first! Thanks to a generous offer to join the media contingent in Sydney for a demonstration flight, the day went something like this: Join our flight – Jetstar airways JQ504 departing Melbourne on an A320-232 (VH-VGN) – it is just over an hour’s flight – and on the ground at Sydney at 09:20 with just enough time to grab a cab to QANTAS House, Mascot, for the pre-flight briefing. Tight timeframes ensured a fast pace...

As we begin to say goodbye to 2017, and welcome 2018, I pause to reflect on the photos and memories attached to them. This is one of my favorite times of the year, while the airshows and exercises are over it is time to pick my favorite photos from this past year. What makes a favorite photo? To some it is called AirVenture, others refer to it as EAA, for a few it is just plain Oshkosh. No matter what you refer to it as, to the Aviation Enthusiast it can be summed up in one word, “home”. Oshkosh Wisconsin is located in the Fox Valley and is 89 miles Northwest of Milwaukee or 56 miles Southwest of Green Bay. Oshkosh is a college town with the University of Wisconsin maintaining a huge campus here. In 2016 a little under 67,000 people were permanent residents. Oshkosh’s airport, Wittman Field or Wittman Regional Airport is typical for a city of this size, but looks are deceiving. Wittman has 4 runways, the longest being Runway 18-36 is 8,002 feet long. This allows aircraft as large as the A380, 747-8F, B-52, and C-5 to operate in and out.
