Farewell to an Old Workhorse

Without so much as a whimper, the last operational US Airways "West" Boeing 737 made its final journey home on ovember 29th.  The aircraft tasked with this assignment, N305AW, touched down in Phoenix, AZ at 1:31 pm, operating as "Cactus 48" from Las Vegas, NV. Among the passengers on the nearly-empty flight was a retired America West Airlines captain who had begun his career with the airline on the day it commenced operations on August 1st, 1983, as well as a small contingent of other employees and aviation enthusiasts.  After landing the flight was cleared into gate A5, where it was met by a group of pilots and other US personnel there to commemorate the unceremonious event, and as the engines spooled down, another chapter of America West Airlines history came to a close...Read More

PHX Spotters Day 2011

By: Category: EventsFriendsPHXSpottingUncategorized

Our second annual PHX Spotters day 2011 was a complete success. The staff at PHX Spotters started planning this event about 3 months ago. We decided to plan the event for November 5th, 2011. We have members flying in for the event...Read More

Spotting location of the week

By: Category: PHXSpottingUncategorized

We will be doing a weekly spotting location update for all of our members and visitors. This weeks spotting location is 40th Street.  If you take a look on the map, that is provided below 40th St is #3 on the map. This is a great location in the winter when aircraft on the 25/07’s can’t be snapped from the parking garages. You can get great landing/departing action on both runways all day long. When driving on 40th Street you will notice that the road comes to a dead end. We have had members scrap the undercarriage of their vehicles when attempting to drive up the embankment. So please drive up there at your own risk. For members and visitors that want to park and walk to the location. It is only about 150-300 feet from the road...Read More
