El Centro Airshow 2012

By: Category: AirshowsRoad trips

Last Saturday, NAF El Centro hosted their 2012 airshow. This was my first ever Naval airshow, and it didn't disappoint. The show opened with the Navy Leapfrogs parachuting team, launching out of one of their C-2 Greyhounds, followed by the National Anthem and some civilian performers, including Tim Weber. A different civilian performer was a jet-powered International Transtar 4300, which fired up the afterburners on the runway while one of the Pitts was flying over. Then it was time for the military performers, which included two F/A-18E from the VFA-122 "Flying Eagles", one of them flying solo, demonstrating the capabilities of the Super Hornet and another one doing a heritage flight with a CAF Bearcat...Read More

By: Category: AirshowsCasa GrandeEventsFly-inWarbird

Last Friday and Saturday the Cactus Fly-In was held in Casa Grande (CGZ). One of two fly-ins in the area that that, the other being the monthlt Coolidge Fly-In, it was packed with fun and lots of airplanes. Now, those that know me well probably have heard that I have been chasing a particular plane for almost a year now, and that was the main reason I HAD to drive down to the fly in...Read More

You can also get aircraft touching down on 26 with the Papago Mountains in the backdrop which is a signature shot from Phoenix.

  • From the east side, you can catch aircraft taxiing on taxiway Romeo to depart on rwy25R. Shots are well lit from noon to sunset here.

US Airways vs Southwest Airlines special themes

By: Category: PHXSpecial paintSpottingUncategorized

While Standing in line waiting to clear the TSA security checkpoint. I overhear a little boy talking to his mom about going to see the "Fishy Plane". After clearing the  checkpoint, I started thinking about the difference between US Airways and Southwest Airlines and their Special Themed liveries. Being a employee of US Airways, they will always have a special place in my heart. In  my own personal opinion, I believe Southwest Airlines has the best overall paint schemes on a number of their aircraft. Although most of their paint schemes are State related. Southwest Airlines has several special schemes to commemorate their destinations, anniversary`s and various other events. Southwest also has several that have nose art. Arizona One, California One, Florida One, Illinois One, Lo...Read More
