Phxspotters Welcomes Josh Akbar
Phxspotters is happy to announce that Josh Akbar has joined the ranks of Phxspotters.
Josh, a lifetime aviation enthusiast, became fascinated with airplanes when he was just a toddler in Massapequa, New York and his parents would take him outside to watch the Concorde fly over his house on its way to JFK. Three decades later, Josh still automatically turns his head toward the sky whenever he hears the sound of engines overhead. Josh has been an avid aviation photographer for more than ten years, first using a film camera, but then making the switch to digital with a Nikon D100 and then later a Nikon D200. One of Josh’s fondest memories as an aviation enthusiast and photographer is having the opportunity to photograph the British Airways Concorde in beautiful early evening light on arrival to JFK shortly before it stopped flying in 2003, and then a week later gathering with a large group of friends and fellow aviation enthusiasts to watch the last ever Concorde departure from JFK on October 24, 2003.
Josh moved to Arizona when he was five, and called the Phoenix area his home until he graduated from ASU and left for law school on the East Coast. After graduation from law school, Josh moved to New York, where he was one of the original members of NYCAviation, an online website and community of aviation enthusiasts in New York and beyond. Through that group as well as the community of aviation photographers and enthusiasts on websites such as airliners.net, jetphotos.net and phxspotters.com, Josh considers himself privileged to have met so many wonderful people over the years who share the same passion for aviation.
In 2007, after living in New York for nearly five years, Josh moved back to Arizona, which has always been his real hometown. Josh now lives in Scottsdale with his wife Wendy and their infant son, Alexander. In his free time, Josh enjoys planespotting at airports all around the world, and tries to carve out a day for spotting wherever he goes. Favorites include LAX, Reagan National, Vancouver, Las Vegas, St. Maarten’s Maho beach, and of course Phoenix Sky Harbor.
Josh uploads many of his pictures to http://www.airliners.net and http://www.jetphotos.net, and also has a personal aviation photo gallery that he created with his good friend and fellow aviation enthusiast Brian Futterman at http://www.pbase.com/joshandbrian.
